Considered the game for high rollers, Baccarat is a big input, big output game.  With high betting limits, the returns are high, but the player’s effort is low. Looking for a lazy way to potentially make big bucks? Baccarat is the game for you…

The cards

Numbered cards from 2-9 are worth their face value. Cards worth 10, and picture cards, are worth 0. The Ace is worth 1.

The game

The player places a bet in one of the three boxes. These are named ‘player’, ‘banker’ or ‘tie’. That’s all the concentration that is required of the player.

The dealer will deal two cards to the ‘banker’ and two cards to the ‘player’.  The value of the two cards is added together. If the sum is a double digit, the last digit is taken. For example, if the cards given are 3 and 8, the sum would be 11. 1 is therefore the number taken. If the cards were 4 and 9, the sum would be 13, and the number taken would be 3.

No further cards are dealt when the player or banker has a score of 8 or 9.  Another card may be dealt however, to the player or the banker where the player’s total is 5 or less and the player chooses to hit. Otherwise, the player stands. If the player stands, the banker must hit on 5 or less.  If the player chooses to hit, then the banker will stand or hit, depending on what the player’s third card is. The table below directs the banker as to what move they should make.

Upon completion of the dealings, the highest hand wins. That’s it! Winning bets on the player pay even money, while winning bets on the banker pay 19 to 20 (due to a 5% house commission). Winning bets on a tie pay 8 to 1. Don’t be fooled though – Baccarat returns around 85% on tie bets as opposed to player or banker bets which return around 99%.
